Naphthalene Superplasticizer

naphthalene superplasticizer is a chemically synthesized non-air entrained superplasticizer with strong dispersion effect on cement particles and good use of preparing super flowing concrete, cast-in-situ concrete and precast members with early strength and high strength requirements. It can comprehensively improve the properties of the concrete and is widely applied to highways, pontibus, matribus, harbors, cuniculis, electric power, water conservancy as well as industrial and civil architecture.

The naphthalene superplasticizer is the condensation product of sodium naphthalene sulfonate formaldehyde condensate (FDN-B). It has stable physical and chemical properties, such as low foaming, altum aqua reductionem rate, noticeable early strength enhancement and strong adaptability to cement. It can be used in different concretes with lower dosage and easy to use.

Compared with polycarboxylate ethers, poly-naphthalene sulfonate (PNS) and lignosulfonate (LS) are water-soluble anionic polyelectrolytes which can be added to the fresh grout of cement based material to increase the fluidity. They can also prevent the agglomeration of cement particles and promote hydration of C4A3S to ettringite in fresh mortars.

This study was to investigate the effects of naphthalene and PCE based superplasticizers on setting time, fluiditas, and compressive strength of C4A3S CSA mortars activated by different molarity of NaOH activator. Ceterum, the morphology, amount, and microstructure of hydration products were studied by XRD, thermogravimetric (TG), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), respectively.

The results showed that the naphthalene-based superplasticizer significantly prolonged the initial setting and final setting of CSA pastes with different dosages. The naphthalene-based superplasticizer mainly adsorbed on the surface of cement particles and released free water, so the setting time was extended under the electrostatic repulsion. The naphthalene-basedsuperplasticizer also promoted the hydration of C4A3S containing ettringite to a higher level, which increased the compressive strength of CSA mortars.
