lightweight concrete manufacturers manufacture a wide range of lightweight aggregate concrete products. These materials are made by replacing natural and sand-crushed concrete aggregates with alternate, higher density aggregates that have been treated by heat to create internal pores. This reduces specific gravity and the mass per unit volume of the final concrete.

The most common types of lightweight aggregates are manufactured by-products from industrial processes such as coal slag or fly ash, or volcanic rock like pumice, shale, clay or slate that has undergone an expansion process to increase porosity. The porous material allows the concrete to be mixed lighter without having to add additional cement.

In addition to these aggregates, lightweight concrete also can be manufactured by adding a small amount of air to the slurry mix. This can be done through a chemical reaction that expands the mix while it is being poured or by adding a foam to the slurry that creates tiny air pockets. This method is known as “foamed concrete” or “autoclaved aerated concrete.” Other techniques include using bottom ash or crushed clay brick (RCB) to add entrained air to the mixture.
