The process of making lightweight concrete blocks consists of four basic steps: холих, molding, curing and cubing. In addition to the basic ingredients of concrete, a variety of chemicals, called admixtures, may be added to alter curing time or compressive strength.

Mixing the concrete

The first step is to mix the cement, sand and sawdust in the proper ratio. This can be done by hand or in a commercial mixer. Colorants, if desired, can also be added at this stage to achieve the color of your choice.

Molding the blocks

Once the molded concrete is ready, it can be placed into molds. Depending on the size of the mold, it may be possible to produce thousands of blocks per hour.

Curing the blocks

The final step in making lightweight concrete blocks is to cure them in a kiln. The most common type of kiln used for curing is the low-pressure steam kiln, which raises the temperature to 150-165degF (66-74degC).

The curing process requires heat and pressure to promote bonding between the block and its mold. Some companies use high-pressure steam kilns, known as autoclaves, which allow for a faster and more effective method of curing.
