Why I Switched to RDP Powder—and Never Looked Back

Unit tip: If you have a 50 kg bag of cement, and your target is 4% RDP, add exactly 2.0 kg of RDP powder. Use a scale. A kitchen scale works for small batches. For large batches, use a calibrated industrial scale.
3. Mix in the Correct Order
Order matters. If you dump RDP into water first, you get lumps. Bad lumps.
Here is the step-by-step mixing procedure I have used on over 200 jobsites:
- Dry blend first. In a clean container, combine your cement, sand (0.1–0.5 mm graded silica sand is best), and RDP powder. Mix for 2 minutes until the color is uniform.
- Agregar 80% ar dehe. Use clean water at 20°C ± 5°C. Start the mixer at low speed (200–300 RPM).
- Mix for 3 t'olo ora. Scrape the sides and bottom with a trowel. Añadir ar resto 20% water if the consistency looks stiff.

Regardless of tool, apply in two coats. The first coat: 1.0 – 1.2 mm wet film thickness. Let it dry for 4–6 hours (at 23°C, 50% RH). The second coat: 1.0 – 1.2 mm wet film thickness. Total dry film thickness: 1.5 – 2.0 mm.
Do not apply more than 2.5 mm wet in a single coat. It will crack. Trust me, I have the photos to prove it.
5. Cure Properly—Or Watch It Fail
RDP powder for cement based waterproofing needs a proper cure to form that continuous polymer film. Cement hydration and polymer film formation happen simultaneously. Disrupt one, and you lose the other.

Day 1: Keep the coated surface moist. Mist it with water every 4 Ya ora. Or cover with wet burlap. Do not let it dry fast. Temperature: 10–30°C.
